ALTERAÇÕES DE PERFIL EM PACIENTES CLASSE II, DIVISÃO 1, TRATADOS COM EXTRAÇÕES DE PRIMEIROS PRÉ-MOLARES SUPERIORES

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the soft tissue changes in patients with Class II division 1 malocclusion treated orthodontically with extraction of two maxillary premolars, and additionally will be evaluated the dental and skeletal changes resulting from orthodontic treatment. The sample used in this retrospective study consisted of 68 initial and final cephalograms of 34 patients of both genders who were treated in specialized courses in orthodontics, in Uningá, Bauru, and the inclusion criteria was the presence of Class II, division 1 malocclusion, with molar relationship of at least half-cusp Class II, without crowding or mild degree of crowding, presence of all permanent teeth erupted up to the first permanent molars, overjet of at least 5 mm, treated with extractions of the maxillary first premolars and exclusion of Class II subdivision. To verify the changes resulting from treatment between initial and final phases, dependent t tests were applied to the cephalometric variables studied. Based on the sample and the methodology used, the changes caused by the extraction of two maxillary premolars in Class II division 1 malocclusion were: maxillary retrusion, improvement in maxillomandibular relationship, increase of lower anterior facial height, retrusion of the maxillary incisors, buccal inclination, protrusion and extrusion of mandibular incisors, and the reduction of overbite and overjet.
