Abstract:
This work aims to study the soft tissue changes in patients with Angle
Class II malocclusion, treated with orthopedic appliances Twin Block developed by
Clark (1982). The present study used a control group of 25 patients of both genders,
with initial and final cephalograms, who were treated Faculty of Dentistry of Bauru-SP
and a experimental group of 20 patients of both gender with initial and final
cephalograms. The criterion for inclusion was the presence of Angle Class II division
1 malocclusion, with molar ratio of at least ¼ Class II, with or without crowding in
patients with mixed or complete dentition, with or without teeth eruption. To verify the
changes resulting from treatment between initial and final phases of the patients
belonging to the sample of this study were conducted dependent t tests applied to
the cephalometric variables studied. Based on the sample and the methodology
used, the tegumental changes caused by therapy with twin block in orthopedic
malocclusion Class II were: improvement in maxillomandibular relationship profile,
increased anterior-inferior facial height, reduction of horizontal overlaps and
decreased facial convexity.
