dc.description.abstract This cephalometric study evaluated the dentoskeletal effects in a group of 16 patients with Class II malocclusion with initial mean age 16.37 years and final mean age 18.39 years, who were treated with the Herbst appliance type CBJ for a mean period of 2.52 years. For this purpose, lateral cephalograms were obtained at treatment onset (T1) and completion (T2) to analyze the effects of therapy, comparing the 27 cephalometric variables by the non-parametric Wilcoxon test. The results demonstrated that the Herbst appliance did not cause changes in the maxilla, and the effective mandibular length was significantly increase, yet without changing the maxillomandibular relationship. The dentoalveolar changes revealed that the maxillary incisors exhibited retrusion and lingual inclination, while the mandibular incisors presented increased protrusion and buccal inclination. The dental relationship exhibited correction in both horizontal and vertical directions and also in the molar relationship. The results demonstrated that the effects of therapy with the Herbst appliance in patients after the peak growth were primarily of dentoalveolar nature. pt_BR
