EFEITOS DENTOESQUELÉTICOS DO TRATAMENTO DA MÁ OCLUSÃO DE CLASSE II COM O APARELHO TWIN BLOCK

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effects dentoskeletal through cephalometric tracings obtained from lateral cephalograms taken at the beginning and end of the orthopedic phase of treatment in patients with Class II division 1 treated with Twin Block functional orthopedic appliance. The sample consisted of two groups, experimental and control. The experimental group consisted of 11 patients were males and 9 females treated at the Instituto da Face® Clinical Cachoeirinha, Gravataí, Taquara, Santo Antônio da Patrulha e Novo Hamburgo, all in the state of Rio Grande do Sul and Clinical Odontologic of the Ingá College (Unit of Higher Education Ingá Ltda., Maringá, PR) with initial mean age of 11.76 years, 12.89 and end of mean follow-up of 1.13 years. The control group was composed of 14 young males and 11 females selected from the files of documentation of the Baurú Faculty of Dentistry, São Paulo, with an initial mean age of 11.39 years, 12.45 years and the final mean follow-up 1.06 years. Both groups should have antero-posterior relationship of at least ¼ of Class II molars, with no individual had undergone previous orthodontic treatment. Based on the results obtained and in accordance with the methodology it was concluded that: The Twin Block appliance showed no significant changes in the maxillary component, there was significant change in mandibular component, upper and lower dentoalveolar changes, AFAI increased and decreased overjet, overbite and molar relationship that contributed to the correction of Class II.
