COMPARAÇÃO DO GRAU DE REABSORÇÃO RADICULAR APICAL NO TRATAMENTO COMPENSATÓRIO DA CLASSE III ENTRE DUAS PRESCRIÇÕES DE BRAQUETES PRÉ-AJUSTADOS: ROTH E BIOFUNCIONAL.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to compare the degree of apical root resorption in Class III nonsurgically treatment between two pre-set brackets: Roth (group 1) and Biofunctional (group 2). The sample contained 180 periapical radiographs of upper and mandibular incisors at the beginning and in the end of treatment, a total of 45 patients, which 23 Roth group (initial mean age of 15.47 years, treatment time of 2.56 years, 13 female and 10 male) and 22 Biofunctional group (initial mean age of 18.80 years, treatment timeof 2.38 years, 13 female and 9 male). Periapical radiographs were obtained with the long cone paralleling technique and root resorption was classified by scores, according with that proposed by Levander and Malmgren. The independent t test was performed by assessing the compatibility between the groups regarding initial age, final age and treatment time and the nonparametric Mann-Whitney test to compare the groups in the degree of reabsorption at the beginning and in the end of treatment. Conclusion: there was no statistically significant difference in the degree of resorption comparing the two techniques.
