Abstract:
Objective: To evaluate the influence of clinical use and sterilization process in
Thermal Transition Range of nickel-titanium wires thermoset through the Differential
Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) test. Material and Methods : Four wires nickel-titanium
thermoset section 0.019 x 0.025” four brand names have been assessed in 4
different states: 2 wires in the "as received", 1 wire after clinical use for 60 days and 1
wire after the clinic for 60 days and subjected to sterilization process by autoclaving
use. The segments of each arc were tested in DSC in a temperature range of -80°C
to 150°C at a rate of 10°C/minute. Results: All wires of nickel-titanium memory
thermoset presented property desirable form for clinical use. This shape memory
property is not influenced by the clinical use and sterilization process. Conclusion:
There was no change in Transition Temperature Range (TTR) of NiTi wires
thermoset after clinical use and sterilization process.
