COMPARAÇÃO DO GRAU DA RECESSÃO GENGIVAL EM INDIVÍDUOS CLASSE III DE ANGLE COM PADRÕES FACIAIS EXTREMOS

Abstract

Introduction: The objetive of this study was to compare the amount of gingival recession between two severe dolichofacial and brachyfacial-pattern patient groups, who have never suffered any orthodontic intervention, and who had dental and / or skeletal Class III greater than ½ class III. Material and Methods: In about 10.000 orthodontic cases, 450 cases were selected, but only 120 had the Class III dental and skeletal relations mentioned above. Cephalometric Analysis were made of these 120 tele radiographs to determine which patients had severe brachyfacial and dolichofacial facial patterns, which was evaluated by cephalometric FMA, SN.GoGn, SN.Gn and LAFH. The 30 more horizontal patients formed the severe brachyfacial group (G1) with an average age of 22,65 and the 30 more vertical patients severe dolichofacial group (G2) with an average age of 24,03. Results: The groups were compatible with each other in the variables: age, gender, Little’s irregularity index, cephalometric and gingival recession (RG42, RG41, RG31 and RG32). Being different and severe facial patterns, the cephalometric variables had high statistically significant changes. However, the gingival recession, despite the variations found, showed no statistical significance. Conclusion: The results showed that among the groups studied there was no statistically significant difference in gingival recession of the mandibular incisors.
