dc.description.abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate the improvement of gingival exposure on smile on cases with botulinum toxin application in the nasal groove. Material and methods: Twenty-nine patients with a mean age of 28.34 years (between 17-42 years), 6 males and 23 females, were selected. Patients received application of Dysport Ipsen toxin, equivalent to 2.5 units 0.3ml syringe and 8mm BD Ultra-Fine II needle on each side of the upper lip and the nose wing lift muscle. The early effects of the toxin were 2 to 3 days after application and the maximal effect at 14 days after application, and the duration is about 8 months. To measure reliably, photos were taken before and after 15 days during the peak. A method where it is possible to measure reliably used was the lowest part of the upper lip (estomion) to the cervical of the maxillary incisors (11 and 21) and also the lowest part of the upper lip to the incisal of the maxillary incisor. This measurement was performed before and after application of the toxin. The program used for this measurement was the CDC / Planimp 2001 (Radiology Center Panoramic X-ray). The comparison of the measures used before and after application of the botulinum toxin was performed by dependent t-test. Results: There was statistically significant improvement in all measures evaluating the gummy smile after application of botulinum toxin. Conclusion: The average improvement in the gummy smile after application of botulinum toxin was approximately 2mm. pt_BR
