Abstract:
Introduction: The objective of this study was to compare the cephalometric
alterations in the integumentary profile of patients presenting with Class III
malocclusions, treated by Biofuncional and Roth prescriptions. Material and
Methods: The sample consisted of 63 patients with Class III malocclusion who
were divided into two groups. Group 1 was composed of 30 patients (11 male
and 19 female) with mean initial age of 20.39 who were treated with the
Biofunctional technique for a mean time of 2.61. Group 2 consisted of 33
patients (22 male and 11 female) with mean initial age of 18.65 who were
treated with the Roth technique for a mean time of 2.81. Teleradiographies were
used in the initial and final lateral norm of the patients to compare the
tegumentary alterations in the two groups. Intergroup comparisons were
performed using chi-square and independent t-tests. RESULTS: Patients
treated with the Biofunctional technique had a significantly higher upper lip than
patients treated with the Roth technique at the end of treatment. Conclusion:
There is no difference in tegmental profile alterations in patients with Class III
malocclusion treated with Biofuncional and Roth techniques.
